India’s Tourism Poised to Go Digital

India’s Tourism Poised to Go Digital: OneTAC Showcased at Startup Mahakumbh
– A national grid to revolutionize the nation’s tourism, art, and culture with decentralized infrastructure

The national digital tourism grid – OneTAC – was showcased at the ongoing Startup Mahakumbh in Delhi. The OneTAC mission – a decentralised digital infra for the tourism, art and culture (TAC) sector – will help India tourism sector leapfrog and unlock its true potential.
The initiative was showcased in the presence of Ms. Mugdha Sinha, IAS, Director General, Ministry of
Tourism, and Prashanth Prakash, Founding Partner – Accel India, and over 50 stakeholders and
representatives from the sector.
OneTAC is a pioneering, community-led digital infrastructure initiative aimed at reimagining India’s
tourism, art, and culture landscape. Leveraging open protocols and a distributed network model,
OneTAC facilitates seamless discovery, engagement, and transactions within the TAC ecosystem,
empowering local communities and safeguarding India’s rich cultural heritage.
Envisioned as a national grid with decentralized infrastructure, OneTAC is set to assure India’s
Tourism, Art & Culture (TAC) sector for transformative growth. OneTAC’s next steps include the
setting up of a Steering Council, developing a dedicated funding mechanism to drive innovation, and
launching a pilot project in Bengaluru.
The Steering Council will be at the heart of OneTAC, overseeing OneTAC’s strategic vision and
ensuring alignment with national priorities. The Council will facilitate collaboration among key
stakeholders, playing a crucial role in shaping the future of India’s TAC ecosystem.
The Council will be complemented by the OneTAC Impact Fund, a financial instrument designed to
empower startups and creators within the TAC space. By leveraging CSR contributions, philanthropic
grants, and equity-based investments, the Impact Fund aims to drive sustainable innovation and
enhance digital literacy among tourism professionals.
Further underscoring OneTAC’s importance, the Karnataka government has recognized the initiative
as a key driver of tourism and cultural innovation, highlighting it in this year’s state budget. With a
strong focus on digital transformation and heritage preservation, Karnataka is playing a pivotal role
in advancing OneTAC’s vision. Building on this momentum, OneTAC is set to launch a pioneering
pilot project in Bengaluru, scheduled to go live by August 2025. This pilot will serve as a proof of
concept for an integrated digital platform that streamlines discovery, authentication, and seamless
transactions across tourism, art, and culture domains.
“With a centralized governing council, a targeted financial mechanism, and a cutting-edge pilot
project—bolstered by strong state support, led by Karnataka—OneTAC is redefining the future of
India's TAC sector. These integrated efforts are essential for driving digital inclusion, empowering
local entrepreneurs, and elevating the overall tourism experience in India”, said Prashanth Prakash,
Founding Partner at Accel India. Pointing out that India’s Tourism, Art, and Culture sector was ripe
for digital disruption, he said “By leveraging technology to integrate stakeholders and enhance
accessibility, OneTAC will uncover multi-fold opportunities for entrepreneurs to tap into the massive
TAC sector”.
