A Lazy Sunday, Champagne and Biryani: Our Afternoon at Hyatt Regency Delhi’s Sunday Brunch
By Payal Sahni | Travel Links Live
Some Sundays are meant for doing absolutely nothing. No schedules, no rushing from one place to another, no looking at the clock. Just a long lunch, good conversations, a glass of champagne, and the luxury of letting an afternoon unfold at its own pace.
That was pretty much how our Sunday went at Café, Hyatt Regency Delhi, where the two of us visited a few days ago for a hospitality review. What began as a leisurely brunch turned into an afternoon that stretched close to four hours. And that, in itself, says something about the experience.
Located on the lower lobby of Hyatt Regency Delhi, Café has an inviting, open feel. Its soaring ceilings, large windows and views of the green gardens create a pleasant setting, particularly for a relaxed Sunday afternoon. It is also centrally located, which makes getting there considerably easier than travelling across the city for a weekend meal.

The occasion was the hotel’s Champagne Sunday Brunch in association with Moët & Chandon. There is something undeniably celebratory about champagne in the middle of the day. The first glass sets the mood, and before long, the afternoon begins to feel like a small occasion rather than just another meal.

The free-flowing Moët & Chandon added that touch of indulgence without making the experience feel overly formal. We could sit back, talk, enjoy another pour, and simply take our time. There was no sense of being hurried along, which is something I particularly appreciate when reviewing a Sunday brunch.
As for the food, the spread brings together an interesting mix of Indian and international flavours, from salads, cheeses and mezze to grills, tandoori preparations and familiar favourites. But as always, a large buffet is ultimately remembered for the dishes that genuinely make an impression.
For me, the biryani was one of those dishes. Served piping hot, straight from the pot, it had the fragrance and warmth that make a good biryani so inviting. It was satisfying, flavourful, and easily one of the highlights of our afternoon. I have always believed a biryani can tell you a lot about the kitchen behind it, and this one certainly held my attention.
The dessert section was another pleasant surprise. The in-house ice creams deserve a special mention. Freshly made on the premises, they had a lovely texture and freshness that stood apart from the usual buffet desserts. It is often the smaller details that make a dining experience memorable, and this was one of them.

There was one aspect that could be better managed. At a buffet with several live and prepared food stations, maintaining the right temperature is crucial. Some dishes would benefit from closer attention to heat control, ensuring that the food stays consistently warm and enjoyable throughout the service. It is a small but important detail, particularly at a hotel where the overall dining experience is built around quality and attention to detail.
What I enjoyed most about our afternoon was not just the champagne or the food, but the freedom to enjoy both without constantly checking the time. There is a certain charm to a long, lazy Sunday lunch, especially when the setting is comfortable, and the service allows you to settle in.
Hyatt Regency Delhi’s Sunday brunch offers exactly that kind of opportunity: a relaxed afternoon with good food, champagne and the pleasure of unhurried dining. The biryani, the house-made ice creams and the Moët & Chandon certainly gave us reasons to remember the visit.

Sometimes, a memorable hospitality experience does not need elaborate theatrics. It simply needs the right setting, a few dishes worth returning for, a good glass of champagne and an afternoon with nowhere else to be. And this Sunday, we had all four.
