Private Safaris Celebrates 50 Years of Crafting Exceptional African Journeys: Kenya-based DMC marks five decades of destination expertise and looks to deepen its engagement with the Indian travel trade.
Private Safaris, the Kenya-based destination management company specializing in tailor-made experiences across Africa, marked its 50th anniversary, celebrating five decades of creating memorable journeys across some of the continent’s most iconic destinations.
Founded in Nairobi in 1976, Private Safaris evolved from a company serving the Swiss market
into an established DMC with extensive expertise across East and Southern Africa. Its
operations expanded across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and Southern Africa, offering
personalized leisure and MICE experiences backed by strong destination knowledge and on-
the-ground expertise.
The 50-year milestone reflected Private Safaris’ ability to evolve with the changing travel
landscape while remaining committed to personalized service, authentic experiences, and in-
depth destination knowledge.
“Reaching 50 years was a very special milestone for Private Safaris. While we were proud of
the journey we had taken, we were equally excited about the opportunities ahead. Our strength
had always been our people, our destination knowledge and our ability to create experiences
tailored to each traveller,” said Cleophas Mongare, CEO, Private Safaris, East Africa.
Over five decades, the company developed expertise across a diverse range of travel
segments, from individual and family holidays to luxury safaris, special-interest journeys and
large-scale MICE movements.
Strengthening the India Connection, Private Safaris identified India as an important and growing market for African travel, with increasing interest in experiential holidays, wildlife, luxury safaris, family travel, honeymoons and MICE.
In India, Private Safaris has been represented by Global Destinations for the past seven years,
with the partnership playing an important role in strengthening the company’s engagement with
the Indian travel trade and building awareness of its African portfolio among travel advisors and
tour operators.
“Indian travellers were increasingly looking for experiences that went beyond traditional
sightseeing, and Africa offered an extraordinary combination of wildlife, nature, adventure,
luxury and culture. We saw significant potential to work more closely with the Indian travel trade and create journeys that reflected the specific interests and expectations of Indian travellers,” added Mongare.
